Transport Infrastructure or behavioural change? Or both?
As we wait for the delivery of much needed infrastructure over the next 5-10 years, we need to consider how we can reduce congestion. Last month we held the pilot for SMART transport forum. We had presentations from Translink, Liftango, Ernst & Young, TravelSmart and EcoTekk to provide businesses with alternate and subsidised travel for their employees.
Large employers, large shopping centres, community groups and councils learnt about the options available now to reduce congestion, reduce travel costs, reduce greenhouse emissions, and travel smarter. The behavioural shift can be led by large employers. This was a pilot and two more forums will be held in early March. Feedback has been excellent - and if you are suffering from congestion in and around your workplace, you are encouraged to attend.
The timing of the arrival of the EasyMile EZ10 electric, driverless shuttle in Mooloolaba is perfect. The community will be able to experience driverless technology as part of a public demonstration of the autonomous vehicle from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 December on the Mooloolaba Esplanade. As a last mile solution, agile and demand- responsive, this type of technology could be incorporated into future transport infrastructure planning for the region.
End of an Era
The current committee that has led RDA Sunshine Coast for over 2 years will soon finish their term. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all past and present committee members for the guidance leadership and support. Their governance and leadership has ensured that RDA Sunshine Coast has relevance in the community and can lead change. The 16 projects delivered over that time have changed people’s lives. I wish you all well in your future personal and business endeavours.
I would like to thank all the fabulous people that have collaborated with RDA Sunshine Coast over the past year. We work with many organisations, individuals, and groups across many projects - too many to mention individually - but you know who you are and are acknowledged in our project summaries on our website.
I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a fun-filled, healthy and happy Christmas. Stay Safe!
